pepper’s clair coming thru strong in the third panel there. not sure how logically the stairs would be the thing when achilles is sitting there sadly, but it shows how worried about it pepper is. it’s also kind of funny how good clair/chloe’s mind palace is at distracting everyone (achilles in this case) from their bigger problems and not just chloe. seems to be working as intended
I think he played “she loves me, she loves me not” with it. Worth noting that in our best shot of the flower in 579, where Chloe bitterly suspects that Mars is lying about doing it for money, it looks like it has six petals, so it would have ended on “she loves me not,” but here, where Achilles is sadly wondering the opposite, we see seven petals on the ground, so it ended on “she loves me.” Looks like Achilles didn’t trust that answer.
Or, you know, some of the petals are not visible at this angle and we don’t have an accurate count lol

achilles says hes confused, and pepper immediately thinks “oh geez its the literal thinking of how he takes phrases” but its just. a Normal sentence actually. not a turn of phrase! a confusing idea for achilles though, more like inner turmoil.
“whatever they said, they didnt mean literally” but pepper says this BEFORE actually hearing what was said [assuming it was going to be a turn of phrase]
it wasnt mars who said she “only does it for the money”, it was chloe, she lied through omission to chloe, but how would achilles know that? of course hed take it literally
but pepper knows mars maybe kind of does Like achilles. hence him pressuring her before in That scene.. so he was kind of right, without knowing what achilles was actually going to say. hm. hm. boys night 2 indeed, cant wait to see how this goes :achilles-loaf:
