this joke actually leads into what I was really gonna write. this page kind of supports a theory I have for how halo head could end. presuming a lot of things lol, but I could see it happening that achilles takes over halo head after chloe and clair eventually leave. based on ares, it seems like a layer needs a steward of some kind, at least that’s what it seems like ares is. and achilles is already great at clair’s filing system, and has expressed interest in making drawings, which are presumably part of clair’s creation process. I feel like these pieces make him a natural fit to sort of “take over” at the end. or at least, to learn and use whatever clair’s system of creation is.
there are some other things too, like how he is the character who discovered the layers. he sort of pushed beyond the bounds of a normal halo head character. also pepper can’t go down the stairs without achilles, which in the story is bc of pepper’s fear, but in the bigger picture means that achilles is still the only one who can freely go from one layer to another.
ok so how this page ties in might be based on some flimsy ideas or things that will be shattered in the next page or two, but it’s like. achilles is the only one we know of who talks to an elvm. someone else mentioned the idea of elvm being seeable to other people, which I think is considerable because of the way elvm referenced his and achilles’ huge ear era; referencing the changing art style bends the 4th wall, kind of playing with reality. if achilles is capable of generating elvm on some level maybe he is just a stone’s throw away from discovering creation? and now pepper and achilles, the two who, together, are closest to understanding the programming of halo head, are here about to imagine up some stuff with achilles’ established very powerful photographic memory.
This reminds me… 249. Stress-dream Ares calls herself “not up to your usual standard of metaphor… extremely literal…” That’s all inside Pepper’s head.
But Pepper doesn’t seem to understand what Achilles is talking about when he brings up his own ELVM. There’s no reason for him to make the connection, and Achilles didn’t give a detailed enough explanation before Pepper assumed he knew what Achilles meant and said “it’s called having thoughts.”
The fact that both ELVM and Stress-Dream Ares are self-aware and use the phrase “extremely literal visual metaphor,” as if it’s Arc Words or something, makes me think you’re on to something.
