Achilles all mind palaces have a Peachykeen available to romance and plant little kisses on your forehead, whether you want her there or not. All paths lead to Peachykeen, particularly the romance paths.
Is the only reason in his mind this landscape is all white is because he has to be told what colour the trees, grass and sky are? Or is it just for visual intrigue/differentiation? Or maybe it has something to do with, if all the characters besides Clair and Chloe are animated drawings, their imagination is white like the paper they’re drawn on? If not a subconscious thing? I’m jumping the gun a bit.
Side note: I wonder on what level all the characters can do the apple test, like how much detail can they fill in. Achilles is good at visualizing people at the very least.
I brought up this particular short story back when Pepper first grabbed this book, and I took it as representative of a perspective Pepper could take about Clair. Deployment of it here to Achilles is interesting when he’s extending an olive branch and trying to help him with Mars is interesting; to me, the obvious comparison between this story and the one Pepper thinks he’s living in is that Clair and Halo Head are the benevolent planet that will punish ingratitude. Is Pepper still pushing on that despite what he said, or is he going to compare the planet to Mars or something? “She loves you, but she won’t talk to you and insists on playing her way, and if you hurt her, even by accident, she’ll hurt you back and won’t explain why” is ig a pretty accurate summary of both Clair and Mars’ approaches to conflict. Maybe that’s the angle he’s using here?
I just read “The One Who Waits” and even though it’s not included in Pepper’s book I discovered just how many of Ray Bradbury’s stories involve Mars. Not surprising considering he’s a science fiction writer, he’s got a whole book called The Martian Chronicles. Still it makes me wonder how many of them can be related to the character Mars. Maybe that’s looking too far ahead and away.
“The planet is alive” There are peach trees, new ones, on Ares’s layer. All paths lead to Peachykeen, because Peachykeen is everywhere, or so she claims.
“She’s a person who loves you” Peachy kissed Achilles. For some reason.
“She can give you whatever you want” Peachy has told Achilles a practical way get the money to pay Mars, and she was right.
“All you have to do is think of–” Peachy would more likely say something like “follow your path,” but at this point, we already have three strikes.
What’s my point? IDK why really, but Achilles might be taking Pepper literally here, in his own unique way
That’s an interesting take! I took it as an intrusive thought, that the planet instead of giving him what he thought he wanted, it instead gave him Peachy, with perhaps either the straightforward view that Peachy is just a fly in the ointment that interrupts his desires and plans, or it lines up with Achilles’ refusal to introspect making him unable to identify his own desires, so he deep down “wants” Peachy in some way but does not understand the feeling or why the wish-granting planet would give her to him.
My thought was that this is Peachykeen somehow able to enter / invade Achilles’ mind, given that everything Achilles was told to imagine isn’t in color and Peachykeen isn’t, but then she isn’t tagged… Achilles is so literal minded that it doesn’t seem likely for him to think of Peachykeen unprompted (or without instruction, in this case). Maybe Peachy’s kiss has something to do with it? Very interesting
first thing is that it sounds like pepper is describing halo head exactly: halo head is presumably in the mind of compositeC, a living person, who definitely loves their OC mind palace demons.
I think the b&w is achilles’ imagination manifesting as drawings. the off-white background is like paper and the purple lines are the same color that clair uses to draw. and I think peachy is colored bc she is coming from his memory instead.
also fwiw, the paper and pen colors remind me of clair and chloe. you could say that clair is the paper because she crafted the world, and chloe is the pen bc the world is there for her to make her mark on. and in order for clair to make things, the two need to come together (pen on paper), it can’t just be one of them really.
clair using chloe to draw things while chloe has interest in drawing but kind of no opportunity sort of represents their dynamic in general, where clair is making everything for chloe, but without a lot of say from chloe. she keeps chloe’s power to herself, and uses it on chloe’s behalf
this is also another similar dynamic to D&D, bc the game master needs players for the world and story to come alive and actually become something. but there is such a thing as the gm being too micromanagey and controlling
Never really registered how long Peachy’s arms would have to be (at least sometimes). Also. Achilles thinks of Peachy as someone who loves him:hearts::hearts::hearts::peachy-cutesy:
Does anyone happen to know which short story this is in The Golden Apples of the Sun? I can’t seem to find it by searching the sentences that Pepper has said here … Thank you …! :thesmoocher:
NEW SHIP UNLOCKED!!!
If you dismantle and reassemble Achilles and Peachykeen atom by atom, fibre by fibre, is it still the same ship?
Ship of Freakeus
ALL PATHS :peachy-aaa:
why does everyone want him :achilles-serious:
Animal magnetism.
lol omg
You can never escape Peachykeen, all paths
everyone wants him carnaly. and metaphorically. subtextually too
It’s what I wanted tbh
ALL PATHS!!!!!!!!!! :peachy-aaa:
She made the peaches.. but he doesn’t want peaches
I like the idea that she’s a living breathing part of Halo Head as a location
and she can give him all he wants.. he just has to think of his path
I kind of love that only Peachy is fully realized in his mindscape.
The sweat just looks so good, it’s so easy to animate it in my mind

Oh no, the forehead smooch was Peachy infecting his poor little hollow headspace. Planting a seed if you will. A peach seed.

Pepper told him to imagine it as Clair’s drawings, Clair does lineart.
Fuck I’m so dumb you’re right
Wait, Achilles has actually been listening to her? Possibly taking what she’s been saying to heart? Loving this! :peach:
Peachy invading realities like Micheal Jorden in the true Space Jam 2
Here There Be Peachys.

When some boys get to a certain age, there’s one thing they can’t stop thinking about….

I love that you can see Peachy’s shadow even in the second panel. She’s not just a random intrusive thought, she’s now constantly on Achilles mind
“‘Oh, that’s a neat detail’ or something insane, I can test out the email feature”
i’m so excited to see more of peachy
