It’s been very interesting seeing how Pepper has changed since seeing the abyss for the first time. In a desperate pursuit to return everything back to normal, he’s strayed quite far from his philosophy of “You can’t make anyone do anything” (HFHH #100). From pushing a very uncomfortable Achilles into being an accomplice in his scam to trying to keep Mars in line, he’s entered this very Clair-esque state of trying to keep everything under control because he fears what could happen if he let’s things happen on their own.
I do wonder at what point Pepper will realize that, despite his efforts, things aren’t going to go back to normal. Even if his plan works flawlessly and Clair somehow never suspects a thing, everything he learned from his trip to the abyss with Achilles is something he will never forget.
