I’m really enjoying Pepper’s gradual descent from a character who’s so kind, friendly, and amicable that Clair becomes jealous of his apparent perfection, to a manipulative sociopath driven by a need to control everything that’s happening around him in order to stave off an intense fear of the unknown. Absolutely superb character arc, and the dynamic between Clair and Chloe was already one of my favorites ever in fiction.
I feel like that’s a bit harsh for what he’s doing, he said before that he wasn’t confident in the way things were anymore and that he needed to learn more, he just knows that bad things will happen to them if Clair finds out (which, based on how she acted when she saw their footprints, is probably true). He’s being controlling and he’s definitely afraid but his motivations here seem valid given the situation.
I’m thinking that Claire isn’t actually keeping anything secret and they could just talk to her and tell everything. I mean, the stairs are RIGHT THERE. If she was desperately trying to hide the other islands, she could have built a wall, put up warning signs or grown prickly brambles all over that area.

I love your style and the use of bright colours but mature themes, Ive read a few chapters from the beginning and can’t wait to rlly get stuck into it Well done for the website design too, i think it is rlly going to pull ppl in (like me!)
