Ah! Yes! the onion metaphor! I remember this from twitter. How similar to the conversation, Achilles doesn’t peel the layers of the onion and just chops it with the skin, the top layer, on, and eventually it all just scrambles.
I wanted to try to give my own explanation on the onion metaphor. So we all know that onions have layers. Achilles isn’t the type of person to peel back the layers he takes things at face value. Thus when he’s told to chop an onion he does it with the skin still on, he sees an onion and he chops it. This applies to how he sees Clair. Clair has really only ever shown him kindness and that’s good enough for him. Now he’s being told that she might be a bad person and that makes zero sense to him. I don’t know if it’s necessarily the right way of thinking but it’s HIS way of thinking and it’s definitely valid.
