This’ll be my first time reading from the beginning! I’m so excited since I’ve been reading them via twitter!! ( and got a little lost! ) :achilles-plush:
Little Halo Head anecdote: when I first read through the whole series (in one sitting of course) I unknowingly did it with my night light filter on and to this day though I think this world Batty has created has some of the most beautiful color palettes I’ve seen panel to panel from any webcomic, in my head I still view the world and maybe even prefer it with a slightly warm tint.

idk how long i can keep this up, but i plan to re-read the comic and put analyses for each page. im doing this both because media analysis is fun, but also because the speed at which i previously read the comic led to me not picking up on a lot of important details, something i plan to remedy
first of all, welcome new readers! you’re in for a real treat! however, please do not read any further than this, as i will be spoiling important details from later in the comic. actually it’s probably a good idea to just not read any comments at all until you’ve read up to the latest page (not sure how useful this warning is considering you probably have to scroll past them to read it, but oh well)
and now for the analysis!
my first instinct here was that chloe was *remembering* peeking into the room. however, the first panel seems to be looking up towards the ceiling which somewhat lines up with chloe looking up in the next panel. the comic also shows clair opening a door in the present-tense, which to me almost makes it seem like they’re both in some kind of hallway with a door to the memory and a door to halo head. so, i think chloe is peering into her memory by looking into the “door” to it, rather than opening the door being part of the memory as i initially thought
also notable is how chloe doesnt remember the previous layers clair made for her, similar to how she seemingly forgets what halo head is at some point along the way. it could be that she’s simply forgotten the previous layers’ existence. however, i also think it’s possible that this (along with potentially a few of the pages that immediately follow) is showing the first layer being created: this would explain why clair acts like the previous layers never existed, and shows no sign of frustration/grief over chloe’s behavior or having to create a new layer and abandon the old one. there is some evidence for this later down the line: when achilles tells ares his layer is called halo head, ares says “pfft. you still call it that?”, the operative word here being “still”. ares has no knowledge of the current layer, other than what achilles just told her and the fact that clair is still in charge. therefore, the halo head name is one she has heard before, used for other layers
overall, this is a fantastic start to a fantastic comic! hopefully my analyses dont keep being this long so i can actually get around to reading it 😛
