This bit is really interesting to me, in that it recontextualizes Achilles’ whole thing as much more than a simple “proclivity”, and more of an active coping mechanism. Maybe it’s no coincidence he found it right after finding the staircase. More of a willing ignorance than simple inability to see certain viewpoints.
