he’s gotta be a separate thing. there’s no notch in the ear and he’s got a totally different way of speaking. maybe he’s like… a discarded sketch? a rough draft clair did before making the achilles we know? a drawing in the corner of the page?
It might make sense if this was like. An “alpha” version of Achilles, one that isn’t as fleshed out (quite literally, as of now) as the final product we know and love, but also more indicative of Clair’s original vision for him.
I gotta say, the symbolism in the last panel is on point. Achilles is seeing clearly. He’s expressing emotions more complex than usual. And he looks so, so wrong doing so.

but panel two, the diamonds to show how hard hes thinking, trying to Understand. panel three, his thought breaks, he doesnt really understand, or maybe he doesnt want to. panel four, one of the most perturbed expressions weve seen on him yet. it REALLY doesnt fit how he usually appears.
thought achilles using all the metaphors achilles has learned so far, speaking different and really challenging achilles.. i gotta wonder if like weve been thinking since he appeared again, if he really is a separate literal thing from achilles? :achilles-onedge:
I like how he used only metaphors that achilles has heard before. so maybe that’s why he waited so long to appear again. maybe it would have been useless to talk to achilles a lot because he needed metaphor in order to communicate, so he had to wait for him to hear some more.
maybe achilles not understanding metaphor is a side effect of cutting off part of his higher thinking. like this part of his higher reasoning lives in the same place as his metaphor. his ability to think abstractly, maybe. maybe clair had him in a layer before but he was dangerous bc of how he thought, but he was also too precious as a special little guy, so she neutered part of his thinking so she didn’t have to lose him. like when she said “what did I do without you” she meant from like, a long time ago.

And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself. Tiny-achilles really acts and thinks like a different person. It kinda feels like hes supposed to be “the version clair imagined achilles to be” physically talking to what he actually became, imperfections and all. Like a fragment of the original draft spectating the current one blunder about.

He always has a very literal view compared to achilles when theyre uncertain. “Go to the stairs” “go after mars” “clair is suspicious”. I know this is actually how some people work through things mentally but his mannerisms thought process and are just… different from our achilles. The one we all know and love. Idk maybe im overthinking but id love to hear what you guys think
i think its SUPER cool that the achilleses are showing opposite colors of their lil tufts until the last panel where theyre MIXED,,, the last panel in general is SO evocative and i love how many themes have literal representations, with eyes but also with sides of the face and with shading and like so much else and UGH this comic fuckin rules man

The stair speech bubbles, “all of the halo heads could be your oyster”, the diamond highlights, and that last panel’s expression. This page feels huge for not a lot actually happening just yet.
I wish I could find it in my heart to completely trust Clair but she’s definitely distanced herself from everyone except as the provider that fixes things for so long it’d probably completely topple her momentary peace she’s found by trusting Achilles if he was the one to directly confront her, and he already has a hard time with abstract thinking, I can’t imagine any other reaction except “Welp, this one was a dud, time to wipe the save again”
Pepper was introduced as kind of a therapy dog archetype
Achilles was a friendly blank slate of polite greetings
Mars was meant to be best friends with Chloe and give her someone to relate to
Peachy was literally a revenge introduction to see how Chloe likes dealing with total chaos the way Clair thinks she deals with Chloe
And they all wandered away from their original purposes in such complicated ways, it makes me wonder what Clair would do if her favorite little guy started asking questions that remind her she has reset and can do it again bruh
