I think we have to admit to some extent that Chloe does take advantage of Clair. Each has reason to drop the other like a bad habit, but they never do. I think she’s just deflecting with something that DOES have some truth to it but doesn’t apply to the original book debacle that started their fight, not necessarily saying “you made me do this to you” :mars-point:
Yeah, exactly! I think her point is that she was vulnerable with Chloe and clearly signaled that she was willing to discuss what happened and to acknowledge how she hurt Chloe last night, and Chloe clearly considered taking her up on it and then instead shut it down with a kind of cruel joke at the expense of Clair and Achilles, which in addition to being an insult in of itself is her rejecting Clair’s whole premise during the first part of this argument, which is that Achilles is a good person and friend to Clair who hasn’t done anything to Chloe.
Of course, Clair also noticeably isn’t actually taking the high road, because while she is willing to take the initial apologetic posture, Chloe’s insults always get right under her skin. She can’t turn the other cheek and let it go even temporarily. She always has to have the last word, and she’s tbh not good enough at zingers to succeed at that. So we’re stuck with one person who says she’s willing to talk it through but doesn’t have the emotional maturity to actually do that and another person who refuses to engage in resolution at all beyond petty insults and one-liners, and we just go round and around.
hell yeahhhhh the ~high~ road :peachy-stare::chloe-onice:
what is pepper saying. I think he’s saying clair has a propensity for self sabotage, and also that he himself has a propensity for that too, hence why he peaces tf out before he can do it
It’s interesting how much the nominal topic of the argument, that Chloe is genuinely super cruel to Achilles, of whom it is unclear how much of his inappropriate behavior is self-aware and who has done literally nothing at all to Chloe besides be annoying and take up one of her friends’ time, intersects with the actual conflict between the two, which is that Clair tried to take the damn book. Because Chloe and Clair both compare Achilles to Clair in the argument by making it about “relating to him,” Chloe is going to insist on bullying him purely to stick it to Clair even if she gets over her jealousy, and because Clair is by extension defending herself and her shitty behavior when she is rightfully standing up for her friend, it means that what she says fall pretty hollow no matter how true it is, and both of them know it.
Good thing Achilles is apparently completely indifferent to being called a freak now that he’s a masochist, otherwise he’d be kind of screwed with Clair trying to manage intracommunity disputes on Halo Head while beefing with like half of the town at any given moment.
I understand that Clair relates to Achilles in a work way, his organized, literal, and genuine attitude towards everything. But I don’t blame Chloe for being so wary of him considering how much of a freak Achilles is!
Sure, her disdain for him dated back even before his turn, but we’ve know this Achilles longer than we have the original one. If he hadn’t seen the stairwell I think we would have an Achilles that wasn’t so oblivious.
A very curt way to put it :pepper-scruffy:
oh you know claire’s flushed about it just by pose alone
Smartest thing Pepper ever did, noping out of this
That’s probably true.
To be honest, I don’t think he’s wrong.
Everyone who’s relating to Achilles do be getting called out right now.
<– Relates to Achilles
It’s me. I’m propensity for self sabotage. :achilles-rose:
loveeeee love love the composition in the first panel *snaps stick in teeth*
the way chloe relaxed a little after seeing pepper…
Oh my gosh look at Chloe’s cheeky grin after that, she LOVED the instant coordination on that one lmao. Classic.
She’s gonna be air fryer smug when Claire sees the broken skylight :chloe-onice:
Chloe’s smile in the last panel is everything:clair-despair:
Is…. is Clair trying to tell Chloe SHE was the one who manipulated her into betraying her trust ??? :clair-what2:

HAHAHA So true bestie! <- relates to achilles
Pepper’s pretty sharp, there’s a good chance he understood the meaning behind that question.
Chloe nicknaming Pepper is so adorable. And they connect so well :chloe-happy:
I said a while back that Chloe hasn’t been happy to see someone in a while, well there you go :pepper-1:
hell yeahhhhh the ~high~ road :peachy-stare::chloe-onice:

Pepper’s comment is like Halo Head – it has layers!:chloe-onice:
Propensity? Have some respect dog, she’s a fuckin professional
A propensional, if you will.
who wouldn’t relate to this :achilles-cutesy: uh this :achilles-rose: well :achilles-loaf: i :achilles-serious:
I don’t blame Pep for dipping out as soon as possible given all the shit that’s happened to him recently
Oh Claire. If you were capable of yes, and’ing, this would have all been solved 350 pages ago
Ouch got called hard by that comment- :achilles-plush:
anyway if clair is taking the high road i am scared about the low one-
Pepper everyone in this town does that

Masochists tend to relate to each other

Also i still hate Clair:mars-shout::mars-middlefinger:
