Anyway, I don’t know if Clair being so secretive is directly causing things not to work out over and over, but I am sure it’s not helping matters.
2) i like the way the tails of clair’s speech bubbles go behind the string of lights. currently fighting a headache so i don’t have the brainpower to Think Thoughts about it but it’s a neat detail
I love our girl. I have too much faith in her at this point to believe she could be responsible for the abandonment of each layer. Maybe that abandonment—the formation of a new layer—IS the consequence if she fails. The thing she’s so afraid of.
I really how that last speech bubble where she says “being the only one who knows” is set against the darker side of the background, as if to say that everyone is “in the dark” about what Clair knows, or perhaps even alluding to Clair being “in the dark” about how much Achilles knows.
I feel like achilles will put the pieces together with what pepper said before. but I wonder how he will react re: telling the truth. like will he start to agree with pepper that they should lie/keep quiet, or will he go his own path and decide to talk to her about it? I feel like he will give her the benefit of the doubt that she will not kill/maim any of them. maybe achilles will offer to help her in even more ways, like with whatever secret bullshit she knows/does. although that might involve lying to everyone else.
I think you’re all gonna have to face it eventually. can’t stay in a distraction / dreamworld forever. all paths… lead out. one way or another. maybe?

i have no clue why, but this update is the one that makes me so, *so* confident about my theory of this being some sorta headspace, the dreamworld of a brain with some brand of dissociative identity disorder. chloe being some form of host, clair being the one protecting and surrounding chloe to prevent the truth from resurfacing…
there’s something about how close these two are right now. it’s probably my brain just finding proof for an existing theory, but… idk. because of all the potential evidence from previous updates, it makes the vibes of “these two are technically two fragments of the same entity” on display here stronger.

Achilles’ eyes in the final panel, while adorable in itself, is split into two key thematic elements – his Left eye is pure bright light: signifying his optimism. Whilst his Right eye, the brusied eye signifies his awareness of darker side and layer below.

Achilles couldn’t connect two dots if they both promised to strangle him for it. It would be wild if he managed to link this to the other layers.
He might be able to ask what she knows, or to offer to share the knowledge so she’ll be less lonely. And with Clair this sleepy, she might answer.
