Field Journal [POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR FIRST-TIME READERS, READ AT OWN RISK!!!]:
And there it lies. Chloe outright refusing, even in her sleep, for Chloe to remember. To try and process it. To /acknowledge it happened/. No. Just close your eyes, forget.
The tears stop like turning off a fountain.
Like cutting off a waterfall.
The healing cannot take place with clair at the helm… because she probably doesn’t believe she /can/ heal.
Idk.
Man.
Clair is all about recovering and getting better, but she’s far more scared of whatever happened than anyone else. Even if shes not the most perfect character in this story I can’t help but feel bad for her.
mwhen Clair initially tried to invited Chole to stay with at her room/house instead of sleeping outside, it was through the engineered and forced context, of Clair witholding a house from Chole in the first place. Clair refuses to let Chole Remember, always choosing to force a distraction.
In contrast, when Pepper invited Chole over, the circumstances surrounding this invitation was neither artificial nor forced, but came about as result of natural conversation.
When Pepper tries to give Chole advice or help, like with the yellow paper book or trying to help her Remember. Pepper is equally willing to back off as soon as Chole makes it clear she doesn’t want to talk about that sort behavior from him
When Chole is genuinely hurting in some way be it physical or mental, Pepper first reaction was to grab some bandages. While Clair after waking up to find Chloe crying in her sleep, was to repress Chole’s ability to continue remembering in her sleep, and run away
this reaction from Clair coming right of the heels, of her breaking down over not understanding why Chole felt safer sleeping in Pepper’s house than with her is so poignant too.
Clair’s own actions answers her question.:clair-sad:

It says something that Clair’s first reaction is to close the eye, suppress the emotions, and run instead of comforting Chloe in any way
