Field Journal [POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR FIRST-TIME READERS, READ AT OWN RISK!!!]:
-That first panel exchange is very interesting, but I don’t have the context to know /why/. Just another example of Claire weirdly obscuring info… for now.
i’m reading it more as she’s questioning herself whether she actually made it or bought it, not intentionally obscuring info. with how fixated she is on “keep busy, don’t think about it,” maybe she genuinely blocked out certain details about the creation of halo head?
I think it’s because, if Chloe knew that everything in Halo Head could be produced from thin air, she’d have no reason to buy into Claire’s “keep busy using capitalism” game. It’s like Claire said – [real] things cost money, and. by corollary, imaginary things are free.
What V said, except with a bit more avoidance on the use of dangerous words like ‘real’ and ‘imaginary’. All the stuff in Halo Head was always in Halo Head because that’s where they are. Expense is tied with don’t think about it as fex indicated, except for the bit wher it totally is intentionally obscuring info at whatever level of thought that obscuring happens.
Also, just to point out, while in a world where stuff really is expensive, inviting ones friends to share living expenses is in many contexts a good thing, in a world where everything is conjured, trying to manipulate ones friend into cohabitation in this manner feels really toxic. I mean, OK, they’re sharing a head so already cohabiting in a sense, but trying to force the question in headspace does not feel healthy. LB Lee of healthymultiplicity.com fame probably has written something more coherent on the topic than I could.
