Happy sixth anniversary to HELLO FROM HALO HEAD! I’m taking my annual month off drawing the comic to work on some other things behind the scenes, so don’t worry about the imminent lack of updates. I love how introspective our little man is being. His imagination made it seem like he understood what Pepper was trying to say, but we won’t know for sure until next month.

Happy 6th Anniversary and 600 updates! I did a complete reread of the comic yesterday in anticipation of today and had an absolute blast.
Year 6 of Hello From Halo Head saw a lot of major developments in ongoing storylines – Pepper overcoming his fear of stairs, Chloe finally getting her plate back, Mars starting to really enjoy her relationship with Achilles, and so on.
But even more than that, we saw a lot of introspection this year, with characters turning inwards and thinking more about the “why” of everything. The year even started with Clair thinking about the nature of her relationship with Chloe back in page 501.
Mars is another great example of this, with the focus on her conflicting relationships with Chloe and Achilles and what kind of connection all 3 of them really want with each other. We even saw the inside of her house for the first time in the comic’s history!
And of course, we’ve most recently gotten this introspection with Achilles, who revealed to us exactly why Mars pushing him the first time was so life-changing for him.
I think that makes this page a fitting end for Year 6 of HFHH as he tries to think though the meaning of Pepper’s story. The way he takes off the blanket resembles peeling of the first layer of an onion – he’s starting to turn inwards and think more deeply about Mars and the relationship they share.

I feel like it’s really hard to be this consistent making a comic, and I think it’s really hard to make a world and story that has secrets to uncover like this. and those things are a tribute to your dedication and attention to detail. the fact that there are theories to craft and questions to find the answers to, that there are clues along the way, and that when you dig just a little under the surface of each page there symbols, themes, and meanings to find make the comic always fun to read and engage with. and of course your art has come so far. clearly this project has poisoned you with something serious. I hope it keeps affecting your brain so that I can continue to be poisoned too <3
love how pepper gives achilles this extremely intense and immersive experience that changes something about him deeply and pepper is just like “uh…was that good?” now THERE’s your dungeon master.

His big eyed thoughtful understanding is such a strong mood for learning stuff that feels so simple yet so so very complex to come to terms with.

Still have no idea whatsoever what is going on, but that’s okay. I reckon I’ll either have a moment of clarity at some future time … or I won’t.
Meanwhile I’m adoring the artwork and liking the pieces of short-arc that seem to make sense to me—insecure though I may be about the accuracy of that sense.
