You know what I’ve never really considered? Chloe might have had friends in some of those other layers. It’s fully possible that she could have found a place she was happy and felt like she belonged, that was erased because it wasn’t to Clair’s exact desires.
To be fair, it seems very clear the Clair’s first priority is Chloe’s happiness. She just take the worst method to reach it.
But, it is possible, that Chloe had a friend she hid from Clair and Clair didn’t think of them when changing the world.
I think she wants her to be happy but I would argue that sleeping at Pepper’s and reading (and having) her book are both things that make Chloe happy that Clair would erase in a heartbeat lol
Government coverup by Big Angel. Remember that any memories or dreams you might have about humanoid talking cars are 100% real and you should get violent about it.
You know, there’s no reason Book Butt shouldn’t have the same powers of creation as Halo Head, right? How do we know she didn’t use them already? :chloe-happy:
I don’t see how getting violent about dreamt up toy aisles full of Transformers I’ve never seen would be helpful, but I’ll take your advice stranger! = D
This dream sequence reminds me of that part in the Yellow Wallpaper where the narrator has been stuck in that room with the wallpaper for so long that she starts seeing a creeping figure within the wallpaper, and when she brings up her stresses to her husband, he refuses to entertain the possibility that anything might be wrong with her other than what he has diagnosed her.
This isn’t entirely 1:1 with that scene in the Yellow Wallpaper because, unlike the figure the narrator sees, we know for certain that Ares actually exists, but we also know that Clair, perhaps in a parallel the narrator’s husband in that story, would absolutely deny that there might have been another resident or layer in the past (think back to when she accidentally called Mars “Ares” and then tried to gaslight Mars into thinking that she misheard her). That seems to be further emphasized in this page, where we see another hand (presumably Clair’s) not only trying to cover up this information about the past, but also trying to take away the tools that Chloe could use to find out more about this information (which also makes me think of how the husband tried to prevent the narrator from writing her journal entries).
Ooo i really like how you worded it here. I wasn’t sure how to express it in words so I usually described her as the “aversion to facing your past traumas/baggage”
Clair very clearly doesnt want to be doing the things shes doing because she knows its wrong, but in her role as The Protector, she cant stop herself from doing all this. Its hurting her AND Chloe, feeding more into Clair’s obsessive need for control.
All she’s meant to do is try to keep Chloe ‘happy’, but Chloe keeps “making it so hard” when she is just trying to fulfill her purpose.
What she doesn’t realize is the avoidance will only make things worse; Chloe is going to have to face the trauma head-on in order to start healing.
I don’t really have any idea what’s the meaning of this but we can’t be actually sure whose hand is which. It could go either way. Though it might be Chloe’s hand with the scissors since it seems to be her dream.
If it’s Clair covering it up, then it’s Chloe holding the scissors.
If it’s Chloe holding the scissors, does that make her the one who hurt Ares? It’s easy to assume Clair did it since she tends to exercise power and Chloe doesn’t, but Chloe could’ve lashed out.
That would cast a bit of a different light on Claire’s determination to direct Chloe toward productive ways of interacting with their little world, if Chloe has (possibly repeatedly?) lashed out in ways that made Claire decide to cut her losses and start over. Especially since we’ve seen that the previous layers are still there. And Ares, despite her possibly metaphorical scissor related injuries, seems pretty much at peace in her own layer.
chloe and ares must have been good friends for chloe to zoom right to her in her dreams. I wonder if this is what chloe’s dream was like when she was dreaming before, while clair and chloe were cuddling. except halo head isn’t around to close her eye this time. I wonder how good clair is at climbing trees? it would be neat if the rain, one of the things clair can’t control, forced chloe into a place where clair couldn’t reach her, so she could finally dream

CMON LET HER HAVE THIS MEMORY JUST A LITTLE
I’m curious if this is Clair’s interference or potentially a natural self preservation response of trying to block out the past
I’d say probably both, in a manner of speaking. Also it’s interesting how the one with the scissors isn’t the destructive force here.
>a natural self preservation response of trying to block out the past
That might be what Clair /is/.

100% agree with this statement.

dream fight

and I wonder how literal the scissors are. it’s hard to ignore the presence of scissors when so many people/things have chunks missing
wow … clair and chloe fighting over the scissors ,,, clair grabbing the sharp end ,, that’s not how you’re supposed to grab them .. clair .. no ..
eyes shut get cut
I have so many questions :steak:
fight! fight! fight!
