clair offered right out the gate for chloe to sleep in her home at any time, and chloe has been willingly sleeping on the ground instead in the extent of her unwillingness to capitulate to anything clair wants of her. clair, then, is understandably pretty upset hearing that chloe decided to sleep in peppers home the same night she met him, and this sets the seed for clairs jealousy in the future. at least thats what i think of it :3
Gosh Clair gets more and more suspicious the more I reread these things. Every time Chloe mentions the villagers, Clair keeps talking as though she’s taking credit for their personality and living spaces. As if she made them…. (she definitely did)
And don’t even get me started on how little respect she actually has for them (sans Achilles ofc, that’s a different case for future episodes). More or less indifference to Mars and [She Who Has Yet To Be Revealed But Never To Be Contained], beginning of jealousy towards Pepper. She seems to have little regard for positive relations with each of them despite their unique and complex personalities… I feel a little sad for her. She must have been pretty lonely for a long time.

Speculating but, you could maybe theorize that everyone is a part of Clair’s psych? Or pieces of herself? She’s playing God, and colorwise she and Chloe are opposites. Chloe ofc has a devil’s tail, too. Maybe she created this to give to herself – or Chloe was a piece of her, some of her repressed angry parts – and then she’s been trying to create this “ideal” citizen who follows her beck and call. And even then, the interactions he (Pepper) has with other citizens falls out of line of her desires – thereby not conforming to her sandbox world.
Excited to see all of this theory disproven in the next several hundred pages 😛
