Of course what Clair either purposefully or unintentionally fails to see is that Chloe’s improved mental health is all in spite of her efforts. I’ve met enough people with savior complexes like Clair to know that they will see any positive improvement as something they’re personally responsible for, no matter what it is
And yet, Clair did create Pepper and Mars, who have helped Chloe, as well as the island they live on. Clair is also helping them live here by providing them with food and clothes and stuff. It’s only fair for Clair to have at least partial responsibility for the good that happens.
But Clair brought Mars and Pepper into existence, as well as everything else, as the means to an end. Everything and everyone she makes is first and foremost a tool to make Chloe suppress her trauma and behave “normally”. As seen with the other layers, when these constructs dont fulfill their purpose she simply discards them. In the long run all this creation of layers and worlds does is perpetuate a cycle of harm by nonconsensual bringing life into existence to fulfill a purpose dictated by someone else.
I think it’s fitting Clair is an angel as her behavior is much like that of the Demiurge/Yaldabaoth: an entity that takes the role of God which is responsible for the creation of an illusory “false” world for the purposes of suppressing those living in it, especially humans. Consequently humanity’s inherently Luciferian ethos reflects Chloe being both a devil but also having skin that looks human. Ultimately no matter what she does or creates, it doesn’t change the fact that her objective is Chloe’s suppression which she thinks is in her best interest. The animals actually befriending Chloe and taking her side against Clair is accidental
Sure, Clair does seem to value whatever she’s trying to do with Chloe over the wellbeing of the island residents. But let’s not act as though Clair is making the descision to discard islanders casually, if that’s even a descision for her to make in the first place. You can see how attached she is to Achilles.
I wouldn’t say the world is there just to supress Chloe, either. It’s quite clear that Clair has a vision for the world where Chloe is productive, relies on Clair and appreciates what Clair does for her. These might not be reasonable expectations towards someone who never agreed to be on the island in the first place, but it does show that Clair isn’t just trying to trick Chloe out of her agency.
And I don’t think it’s fair to call it incidental that the animals befriended Chloe and take her side. Mars was literally made to be Chloe’s friend, and one of the first things she did before she changed out of Clair’s control was tell Clair she’s boring. With Pepper, it’s not such a direct relation but he was still made to be empathic.
hah, Achilles is literally holding the fort by laying on it, and figuratively holding the fort by telling lies to hide that he knows about the other layers. clever wordplay/visual gag :batty-long: :hearts:
“I must be doing something right!” biting my tongue until it bleeds… But maybe her being less insecure is a net positive even if she gets that progress a bit unfounded… Chloe giving her some grace pointing out that they’re still talking despite her fucking up shows she is kind at heart, but then Clair taking that inch and going a mile got me dreading how she’s gonna use this approval fuel :chloe-bored:
The place where we’re catching her stride in panels 1, 2, and the first part of 3 make Chloe look like she’s so light and airy! I think she’s feeling really good, even if she doesn’t fully realize it yet :mewww: :clair-cute:
Wow, deep introspections from Clair.
Goofy little goober (both of them)

The creature :achilles-prrr:
nice to see Clair figuring out that community can grow and change…
not so much a fan of using the words suspicious..
Achilles, you aren’t holding down anything
a gust of wind could knock you down
OH she is doing that, Achilles. she’s doing that :clair-cute:
Clair? Lie? She would never. :clair-cute:
Those are some impressively clenched fists
There was a speck of dirt in her left hand that is now some kind of microscopic diamond
Heavy duty Achilles indeed!
Good kitties deserve pats! Everyone give Achilles all the pats for holding down the fort!
Is it really a public image if it only affects four people (Peachy does not care for such things)

I love how elegantly she walks. :hearts:
let’s all thank achilles for “holding the fort down” for almost a month – or, lets…..punch him for it? as thanks, yknow
HES HOLDING DOWN THE FORT JUST LIKE THEY ASKED HIM :achilles-prrr:
Thanks, glad you’re back!
Oof. Poor choice of words, Achilles…
Clair actually taking on board something Chloe said? Is that… progress? :clair-cute:

CLAIR I MEAN CLAIR hoo boy I’ve been out of the game too long
I was gonna make the same joke as him
