The visual symbolism of the bloodstain on Pepper’s shirt fading as he’s actually comfortable around someone is palpable. Chloe being able to enjoy herself, comfortably, with Pepper, knowing that he’s at the very least putting in the effort, is part of that initial metaphor — it was always her metaphor of comfort, unsubtly, but now she’s genuinely able to feel cozy.
