There’s an interesting mirror between Pepper’s attempts to cheer up Chloe here and Clair at the lighthouse (even outside of two closed eyes/two open eyes). Neither person is fully comforted by pepper, Clair pushes away through anger driven by self-importance (“I know best, how dare you suggest otherwise”), while Chloe pushes away through disgust driven by low self worth (“I’m stupid, how dare you suggest otherwise”). They both have huge walls up that need more attention than “everything will be alright.”
I’m hoping that Chloe handles it a little better, if only because she actually took the first step of reaching out to Pepper rather than him stumbling onto her the way he did with Clair. Chloe -wants- to be comforted by him, even when she’s being abrasive about it. She doesn’t want him to prod her into talking about things, but she wants the stability of hanging out with him even when she’s breaking down.
Ever since Chloe woke up from her trauma memory with what looked like the hands of a clock in her right eye, I haven’t taken my eyes off of Pepper’s compass clock.
3:00 or 12:15.
I’ll be waiting.
I hope that’s all that is cuz man I’ve been killing itself trying to find the symbology of that damn clock. At first I was like “maybe this scene is relating to cardinal directions”. Not really! Seems like every culture has its own definitions on what certain directions mean besides the obvious placements of the sun and archaic terms. I learned that Yemen means ‘to the right of the Levant’ which comes from Latin ‘levo’ or ‘to rise’.
After that I thought it was the compass positions relating to time, ‘true/absolute bearing’ but even then there’s not much it symbolically.
Clocks by themselves represent (wouldn’t you guess) time. And death. And that sometimes a clock will stop on or before someone dies. Cool.
Don’t place your clock facing west cuz it’s bad luck I guess according to Feng Shui people even though everybody else considers the west good luck??
I looked at the Chinese zodiac and the combinations of Dragon, Monkey and Goat seem to amount to nothing.
Sometimes the answers far easier than you think so hopefully you’re correct and, while interesting, I’ve kinda learned all this stuff for naught. I’m an overthinker.
I think it’s a little simpler than that- I think the compass is literally just cuz Pepper’s meant to be a guiding force, someone to help you along your way with his advice, when you’re feeling lost.
She is beauty, she is grace, she’s making a funny face

Its also so funny that in both cases his first thought is wow these people need to sit the fuck down lmao
