Not a big observation but I just wanna point out how we are currently seeing Chloe from her left side, which as we know is the eye she keeps closed, MEANING that we literally can’t tell how she feels in this instance beyond a few facial details REFLECTING PEPPER’S SHARED INABILITY TO JUST KNOW WHAT’S IN CHLOE’S MIND BY GUESSING!!!!!
I admittedly also missed this on first readthrough. I only noticed after I saw batty talk about Clair having both her eyes open after I’d caught up. That scene seems a lot more significant in hindsight.
Well, the short of it is that when Chloe starts to remember her trauma, her eye starts to squint open.
There’s other stuff you can read into. Clair has a closed eye as well and had both eyes open back when Pepper came to visit, and Pepper occasionally shows an eye when unsettled.
