She hinted during her conversation with Pepper that things would be way worse if she didn’t bother (“You want better than the worst, at least”). So she puts herself through this for a reason.

to be fair, i dont think achilles meant to imply that clair is controlling towards chloe with that statement; from achilles’ perspective, clair just wants to help them all, because shes nice. he probably just used that type of language because physicality like pushing someone around is something that his brain frequently comes back to, with his masochism, and perhaps also because he feels like it would be somewhat bossy for Him to tell chloe what to do. thats just my interp tho 🙂
Clair cursing here is so elegant, it’s really, really getting to me. At the best of times, she really relishes getting to poke little holes in her facade of sanctimoniousness, when it’s to facilitate a closer and more interactive relationship with Chloe. We saw this only a few pages ago, how much Clair adores getting to surprise Chloe and catch her off-guard, and really drink in how much Chloe always appreciates the novelty of it. Its those times when they become so much more similar than they are different. And here she does it, but not as performance. It’s just her with her walls down. More revealing than seeing her naked would be, honestly.
I think this is super interesting because on one hand, it’s a very realistic interpersonal conflict… but on the other hand, it’s been all but stated that Claire and Chloe are both core aspects of a single person’s psyche? “Why is it always my fault (when I fight with another person)” is one thing, and “why is it always my fault (when I’m struggling against myself)” is quite another.

Although I’m also really impressed at how well done it is — they’re two girls suffering from one traumatic backstory, and it doesn’t feel weird. And you can sort of intuit a lot from the way their eyes work. 🤔 It’s like they’ve blocked out different things.

… For some people. While it’s still frustrating that people do not seem to value your effort like you would like to, it doesn’t mean what you do is not important. I’m sure Achilles can make her feel more valued than just “Chloe’s crazy ex”.

can we talk about how different clair looks in the 3rd panel? like, her hair loses it’s simplistic, rounded shape and becomes more realistic, before quickly snapping back to how it usually is in the 4th panel. i feel like this has something to do with the flashbacks that she keep suppressing, ig only time will tell :clair-despair: :clair-despair:
